This Girl Had the Perfect Response When Her Face Became a Cruel Meme

Most memes are funny. Really funny, in fact. But, some of them take pictures of regular people and use them as the butt of the joke and we are not here for that. Neither was this girl, who unfortunately became the face of a very cruel viral meme after her friend, a makeup artist, posted her 'before and after' makeover photos.

The Instagram account @Makeupbydreigh has a ton of before and after photos, which the makeup artist obviously uses to demonstrate her work. For some reason, though, Ashley VanPevenage's photos caught a lot of people's attention:

What happened next is utterly humiliating. Ashley's photos started making the rounds, with people sharing the side-by-side and writing things like, "The reason why you gotta take a b**ch swimming on the first date," and "I don't understand how people can do this and I can't figure out how to conceal a single pimple on my face."

When Ashley got wind of it, she posted this response on YouTube, which showed that she's just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside:

"I used to be entertained by many memes," she admits. "But when it's actually you and you're dealing with all the harsh comments, it's a whole different story." She then reveals that seeing the thousands of awful comments attacking her appearance made her extremely self-conscious, which is completely understandable.

Then, she explains how she overcame that and we want to crawl through our computer screens and give her a giant hug for the amazing inspiration she shared. "People's opinions don't matter to me and they shouldn't matter to anyone. Everyone should feel beautiful in their natural skin - and it doesn't matter what's on the outside of your face. What matters is who you really are."
