Disney Has The Perfect App For Selena's Baby Sisters
In addition to piloting careers for the uber-famous, Disney has been making monumental shifts in technology. It started with a billion dollar investment in making its theme parks a magical, connected experience through intelligent wristbands, and now Disney is possibly working on a wearable for outside of the theme park.
Disney's startup program, Disney Accelerator, is graduating a company called Emotiv, which - get this - has a developed a wearable for your brain.
The wearable has a connected app that tracks your brain activity (their current model retails for $399) but aims to do much more. Emotiv CEO Tan Le says that they aren't that far off from users being able to control virtual and physical objects with their mind using the head wearable.
So where does Disney come in? This technology could allow Disney to create games where users would wear the headset and play the virtual games, via an app or other something of the like, using their thoughts to play. Who says Disney needs to stop at wristbands? The next phase for theme parks are virtual experiences, and I can't think of anything cooler than controlling that experience with my mind rather than a controller.
Disney has yet to formally invest and partner with Emotiv after the company's graduation from the program, but I have no doubt Disney is looking for ways to catapult this technology to the next level. Theme parks for the new generation (like Selena's sisters - Gracie and Tori - who are toddlers), are already in full-planning mode. It's never too early to think of the next big thing, and Disney always seems to be ahead of the game.
