5 Reasons Why You Should Be Watching 'Jane the Virgin'
In the meantime, get caught up by going over these five reasons why I watch Jane the Virgin and you should, too!
1. It's Called Jane the Virgin
I mean, who doesn't want to see a funny spin to the tale as old as time about immaculate conception? Who even comes up with that?! Do you already feel the itch to just watch the pilot, if only to find out how exactly this conception took place? More importantly, what is Jane going to do about it and what will those closest to her think of it all?
2. The Show Stars Gina Rodriguez
Not only is she an amazing woman, the actress has also won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Jane, proving that she has what it takes to carry the show on her own. Besides, Gina is a great role model for not only Latinas, but all women, and is a firm believer in feminism.
3. Jane the Virgin Mimics Telenovelas
The show pokes fun of itself all the time. Who doesn't like drama with a lot of over-exaggeration, passion and humor? Moreover, the show devotes a lot of time in representing Latin American culture in general, which is a great feature as it's a group that is usually a minority on television shows.
4. Two words: Justin Baldoni
Who can deny him anything if he's looking at you with those two big pools of chocolate framed by lashes that go on for miles and just - ugh! The world isn't fair. Luckily, he landed the role of the bad boy turned good boy and possible love interest of Jane, giving him a lot of screen time that is much appreciated.
5. Jane Is a Survivor
She's a very self-aware young woman, and she goes through a lot that would leave anyone completely out of sorts, but she always survives. She's strong and independent, and she grows so much throughout every episode. There's a lot of time devoted on character development and seeing that good people can do bad things or have bad things happen to them, as well as the other way round. The show is a perfect example of how life can throw you a curveball, and it's up to you to decide what you do with it.
But its most appealing attribute is the fact that despite all the intrigue and dramatic turn of events, the show is able to tackle important issues with the perfect dose of humor, comedy and quirkiness - leaving you talking after the show has ended with a smile on your face.
Because in the end, it's just a show about finding your place, finding yourself in a world that is ever-changing. Add a very nosy abuela, a single teen mom that wants to keep Jane from making the same mistakes, and a newly acquired dad that means so well but doesn't quite get it yet, and you've got the perfect family members trying to guide Jane through making her own choices.
Convinced? Great, because Season 2 airs TONIGHT on The Cw from 9-10 p.m. - I know I'll be setting my DVR!
