Days before Blake Lively officially shut down Preserve, Martha Stewart shared her thoughts on the actress's passion project coming to an end (for now).
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I know she made a big effort," the lifestyle guru told Us Weekly. "Sometimes shuttering is good. Listen, she's a movie actress. Why bother with commerce right now? She's at the top of her career...I'm totally supportive, but you know what? Maybe you can't do everything at the same time."
Considering Martha has appeared to throw shade at Blake before when it comes to Preserve, it might look like she threw a little again, but, Blake kind of shared those sentiments when she discussed the shut down on Instagram, admitting she tried to dabble in too many things at once.
"Thank you guys for your support every step of the way in the @preserve_us adventure," she wrote. "I couldn't be more grateful!! One day I'll stop wearing so many hats ....but ...I'll probably be dead by then, so...I'm just doin' what mama taught me ;) She's my idol. Who's yours? #WhyIsThereNoEmojiForSpiceGirlsGirlPowerFingers ?!!!"
The actress first revealed she was shutting down the site to Vogue, telling the mag, "We have an incredible team of people who do beautiful work, but we launched the site before it was ready, and it never caught up to its original mission: It's not making a difference in people's lives, whether superficially or in a meaningful way and that's the whole reason I started this company, not just to fluff myself, like, 'I'm a celebrity! People will care what I have to say!' It was so never meant to be that, and that kind of became the crutch."
Thankfully, it won't be gone for good. Although Blake shared that she would be officially shutting down the site Oct. 9 and stuck to her word (much to our sadness), she also said she plans to bring the site back better than ever. "The only way I can prove all the negative reactions wrong is to come back with a plan that will rock people," she told the mag.
"And I have that plan," she continued. "And I'm so excited about it, and that's what gave me the courage to do this, to say, 'You know what, I'm going to give myself one more shot at this, and I really have to do it as well as I can do it this time.' And that is the only thing that will impact people. And that's what I'm doing."
A few days after the shut down, a message that popped up on the Preserve Instagram that read, "Thank you for sharing your stories and Preserving with us. Preserve.us is now closed, but keep an eye out for our future projects. If you have any questions, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org. XO Blake and the Preserve team. #PRSRV."
We have no doubt Blake is going to bring the site back with a bang.
