Hayden Panettiere Is Seeking Treatment for Postpartum Depression
The Nashville star has reportedly taken medical leave from Nashville to seek treatment for postpartum depression, according to Us Weekly, and checked into a medical facility Tuesday. Just like Hayden, her character on the ABC show, Juliette Barnes, welcomed a baby girl and is also battling postpartum depression.
Just a few weeks ago, Hayden opened up about her experience playing the role of a mom with postpartum depression, saying on Live! with Kelly and Michael Sept. 28, "I can very much relate...it's something a lot of women experience. When [you're told] about postpartum depression you think it's 'I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child.' I've never, ever had those feelings."
"There's a lot of misunderstanding — there's a lot of people out there that think that it's not real, that it's not true, that it's something that's made up in their minds, that 'Oh, it's hormones,'" she continued. "They brush it off. It's something that's completely uncontrollable. It's really painful and it's really scary and women need a lot of support...women are amazing. We do something that no man can do on this planet. I mean, we grow a human being in our body!"
Hayden and her fiancé, professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko, welcomed their daughter Kaya Evodkia last December. While postpartum depression in her real life probably hasn't been the easiest thing to discuss, we're glad she recognized the signs early on and is doing everything she can to treat it.
