However, before she was even introduced, it was clear that this season was an entirely different show. Not only was the cinematography beautiful with a great variety and control of stylized elements, but the music and ambiance set a tone that grasped for an adult audience. It felt as if I were watching a movie instead of a television show. The buildup to her first scene was intense, filled with jaw-dropping, distressing and frightening story lines. By the time she appeared on screen and Tear You Apart began playing, I was immensely invested and curious about what role she would play in the horrors at Hotel Cortez.
And then, I was completely blown away. Lady Gaga shattered any misgivings I had about her presence on my favorite TV show. She brought high fashion, elegance, and blood...so much blood. Her acting was very natural and authentic. I felt genuinely intimidated by her character and knew that although previous seasons have been consistently creepy, this season has the potential to be genuinely scary. If I could summarize the first episode in one word, it would be: insane. I am extremely excited for the rest of American Horror Story: Hotel, and I'm positive The Countess will easily become one of the most infamous characters of the show.
