What's the point of having a smartphone if you can't load it up with apps, right? If you abide by this unwritten iPhone rule, then you may have noticed that your battery life doesn't last quite as long as you would like it to. But while having a ton of apps running can certainly be taxing on your poor phone, there is one app that sucks your battery life the most
- and it may surprise you.
You can blame one of the most popular social networking apps for draining your battery during a very important texting session. As first pointed out by product designer Matt Galligan on Twitter, the Facebook app uses a ridiculous amount of battery,
especially compared to the other apps you use on the daily.
No one is sure exactly why this is the case, but the speculation is that it is Facebook's constant refreshing that drains battery so much. Unfortunately, there's a catch 22 to that situation: Facebook prides itself on keeping you updated on your friend's lives, which means that the app needs
to refresh the content you see in order to function.
While you may want to see cute photos of your friend's new puppy or what colleges your classmates got accepted to via Facebook, that doesn't mean that the app should be the reason your phone dies before your fourth period class. Fortunately, Facebook gets the struggle, and is reportedly working on a fix that could make their iOS app work more efficiently.
Until then, keep your phone charger handy.
