According to Defamer, it was an inside job executed by a current Tidal associate who also happens to be Rihanna's former publicist, Jonathan Hay. Unfortunately, ish gets even messier from there. Infamous author of unauthorized biographies, J. Randy Taraborrelli is preparing to publish a book titled Becoming Beyonce: The Untold Story in which he alleges that Bey and Jay took a year-long break in 2005 due to rumors that the Hov cheated with Rihanna. As it turns out, that supposed rendezvous between the rapper and his mentee was fabricated by Jonathan to promote Rih's single "Pon De Replay," a fact that he's publicly owned up to.
In a statement to the Daily News, Jonathan said, "I was blindsided by the news of 'Becoming Beyoncé' coming out and it couldn't come at a worse time for me." He continued, "I'm currently releasing projects with my label Urban Hitchcock through Tidal, a company that is owned by Jay Z and Beyoncé ... Hopefully this news hasn't ruined that relationship for me."
"The PR stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break 'Pon de Replay,'" he continued. "It was reckless and I didn't think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick."
Honestly, this entire "admission" sounds suspicious AF. After all, this is coming from a PR specialist. For the time being, we're giving this story a major-side eye, but we have to admit that we can't wait to hear what other tea this book will spill.
