Ever wonder what your dog is thinking? While we're sure they're not having any serious deep thoughts, we've always been curious about why they tilt their heads...you know, like they totally know what you're saying and understand you?

We like to think they're totally in on the conversation, but it's not exactly like that.

Mental Floss reports that your pooch tips his head because he's listening and trying to empathize with you. All together now: Awwww. The head cocking, according to the site, means it's "possible they're listening for specific words and inflections they associate with fun activities like meals and playtime."

Dog owners know all too well how in tune their pets can be – you know, when you're feeling sick or blue, a pup is always by your side to make things just a little bit better.

There's also some indication that a dog may tilt his head to allow his outer ear to better locate where a sound is coming from as well as trying to get a better look at your facial cues.
