The did-they-really-say-that moment went down in the beginning of the show. Carrie and Brad addressed the white elephant in the room.
"It's cray cray how many couples have broke up this year, from Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Halle Berry and what's his name," Brad said while opening the show with Carrie.
"And of course, we can't ignore the breakup that really rocked our world, the one that's on everyone's minds, two people who we all know and love: Splitsville."
Then the camera cut to Kermit and Miss Piggy, The Muppets characters who split earlier this year.
"Look, they're not even sitting together," Brad said. "Is it me, or does he not even look well?" "I think he's kind of looking a little green," Carrie added.
Brad went on, saying, "I know. Maybe it's his self tanner."
Carrie ended the segment on a thoughtful note, "Well, Kermit, Miss Piggy, we just want to let you know that we love you both and want you to be happy."
Then Brad chimed in, "And on a completely unrelated note, Howdy Blake."
Like a good sport, Blake took everything in stride, laughing and smiling when the camera zeroed in on him.
"Have you heard the song that Blake did with Ashley Madison?" Brad asked, referring to the controversial dating site cheating scandal. That's when Carrie corrected him, "No, no, that was Ashley Monroe."
Blake knew the jokes were going to happen. While chatting with Seth Meyers a few weeks ago he foreshadowed, "This year is going to be awkward at the CMAs, speaking of jokes...[County music] is such a family. Everybody there is friends, you know? There's gotta be a joke about me and Miranda."
