According to recent statistics, one in five college women will be sexually assaulted by the time they graduate. While activists have made an impact on how we view the crimes committed against women during their time at school, not everyone sees this issue as a big deal - or one that could happen to them or their friends. That's where the bear metaphor comes in. In the video, Jake insists that the bear hanging out in his kitchen isn't a big problem. Sure, statistically that bear will eat one in five people, and yes, he has five friends, but why should he be concerned? It's only when the bear comes pounding on his door that his friends realize, oh crap, they really need to do something about this bear. The message is clear: we can't just ignore very real threats, and much like this bear, sexual assault is also something we need to deal with ASAP.
