We're on a Need-to-Know Basis With Facebook's Notify

If you think Facebook already sends you way too many notifications, you might not be into its new app, which launched earlier this week on iOS (we did try to warn you this was coming).

Notify wants to take the news out of your News Feed and put it into a separate app. Info will be delivered to you primarily by - you guessed it - notifications on your lock screen, which you opt into based on your likes and interests. If you are intrigued by the notification, you can swipe to be taken to the article, video or website.

The notifications come from major media brands, and we found a bunch of subscriptions we'd totally be into having delivered directly to our lock screens: Vevo New Music Videos, Marie Claire The Beauty Beat, Buzzfeed Trending, Glamour Fashion Trends, Hulu Today's Best TV Moments, E! Get the Look and Comedy Central Now. We're really just skimming the surface here; you can also search for updates by category like news, entertainment, health, lifestyle, fun, food & drink, fashion & beauty and shopping.

What we love most about this app is that it allows you to pick and choose which updates you want to receive - a vast improvement to the current News Feed, which tries to guess which stories you'll like with the help of a ranking algorithm. And, although computers can be smart, picking which stuff we want to read is something we'd rather decide for ourselves.
