L.L Bean has been a staple in American fashion for decades. Its outdoor boots, commonly known as "The Original Duck Boot," are so popular that they are almost always sold out. But why?Customers buy L.L. Bean bootsHello Giggles reports that L.L. Bean boots are consistently backordered because of their unique manufacturing process. See, it does what many fashion and accessory companies do not: Manufacture in the United States and sew and create all of its boots by hand in its 117,000-square-foot Massachusetts warehouse. Also, each pair takes about an hour and a half to make (that's like, two episodes of PLL!), which means it takes a pretty long time to crank out enough shoes to fill the thousands of orders.

Even with the so-called "Duck Boot Shortage," the brand is making the most boots this year than they've ever made with projections to hit almost half a million pairs in 2015! That is a lot of boots - and almost double what they made a decade ago.
Operations Inside The L.L. Bean Manufacturing FacilityL.L. Bean's handcrafted boots and "Made in America" label are still definitely worth the wait, especially since winter is coming (yes, that was a Game of Thrones reference).
