How I hate the word "hiatus." I cannot imagine how this hiatus plan could create such mixed feelings in all of us. Wasn't it heartbreaking enough that Zayn decided to leave the band this year? Also three-fifths of the band broke up with their long-term girlfriends. Sigh.
Our hearts broke so many times this year, but the boys just finished their never-ending On The Road Again tour and deserve a break (even though we'll gonna miss them so much). Let's see how we can survive the hiatus. At least we're all in this together.
Starting in March 2016, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan will probably do individual projects for a while, possibly writing songs or other projects. It will be so weird to see them going solo. Sobs.
I've been a fangirl for as long as you can imagine. NSYNC's hiatus ended up with Justin Timberlake going solo and becoming a sex god. Fall Out Boy's hiatus, however, turned out great with their epic comeback. My sister and I survived their hiatus for four years. It has been weird. We used to talk about the band. When Patrick Stump went solo, I'd focused only on Patrick's solo career; my sister went with Pete Wentz. It wasn't as much fun when they were together as a band, but their epic comeback made it worth the wait. They saved rock 'n' roll.
Another hiatus that we have survived was the Jonas Brothers'. Nick and Joe Jonas went solo back in 2010 and 2011. It was not fun when I keep talking about Nick, and my sister keep talking about Joe. It's not as much fun if we can't fangirl together. The Jonas Brothers made a quick comeback in 2012, and we were more than happy to fangirl together again. But then, in 2013, they decided to split up. Our hearts were broken. They are brothers, and they had some creativity differences and Nick wanted to go solo. Mixed feelings occurred when they announced the breakup. We didn't really know what happened between them, and I was kind of blaming Nick. But looking at it now, my sister and I could still fangirl over Nick and also Joe's new band, DNCE. We are more than proud of Kevin as well as he is now a father of one, Alena, and an entrepreneur and an app master. We're still hoping for their reunion. Fangirls could only hope. Sighs.
Last week, one of my fave bands, Good Charlotte, announced its comeback with a brand new single, "Makeshift Love." I used to be jealous when my friends' fave band released a new music, while my fave band was on hiatus. But now, I'm more than happy to welcome their new music, new merch and hopefully new album and also tour! It was also worth the wait!
I believe my fellow Directioners are loyal fangirls. It is one amazing fandom, and I'm so proud to say that I'm part of it. Sure, we're gonna miss their updates, the tour, the merch, the promo and everything. By everything, I mean Harry's perfect hair and his man bun, Harry and Liam's high notes, Louis' jokes, Niall playing guitar, and of course, their falling on stage moments.
One Direction is the glue to my fangirl family. We didn't know that fangirl runs in our family until 1D was coming to our town. My sister, cousin, niece and I went online at the same time just to buy the concert tickets before they got sold out! It was brutal! It was crazy how concert tickets got sold out so fast. We didn't know that my cousin was running a 1D fanbase account on Twitter. That day, we found out that all of us are hardcore Directioners, and it was crazy to see how 1D made us closer than ever and we can fangirl together.
I believe the four of us and our fellow Directioners around the world can survive the hiatus. They need their time off. Let's prepare ourselves for their hiatus by keeping to support them and their individual projects, possibly missing Harry's high notes on live performances, though.
Come on girls, we can survive the hiatus! Say it with me: "Yes, we can!" and "I'm a boy band hiatus survivor." Now, will you guys excuse me while I take a shower and cry while singing to "Story of My Life," "Strong" and "Love You Goodbye"?
