The former NBA star was in a coma for a few days and when he woke up, he was still suffering from multiple organ failure. Now, he's doing a lot better and as Khloe Kardashian explained during a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, "He is off of all machines that help his organs, but he still has such a long way to go."
Part of that process is learning how to walk and talk and feed himself again. "Cognitively there's a lot...there's like...it's a long, long road ahead," Khloe explained.
Sadly, it sounds like the process on that front has been slow. A source told PEOPLE exclusively that, "Lamar won't likely leave the hospital for a long time. And when he does, he will need full time care. He can't take care of himself."
"Lamar has serious longterm and lasting issues. His life will never be the same as it once was," they continued.
While we're obviously sad to hear this update, we continue to wish Lamar all the best in his recovery.
