The Colors of the Year Have Been Named, and They're Really Pretty

By the looks of things, the pastel hair trend has influenced more industries than just beauty!

Each December, the team of color analysts at the Pantone Color Institute announces the hot color of the upcoming year, and for the first time ever, they've named two shades for 2016: Rose Quartz, a pale pink that might be giving rose gold the shaft, and Serenity, a calming shade of light blue.
The soothing AF shades come at a time when we def need them, as tragedies like the Paris attacks and the San Bernardino shootings have left us all a little shaken.

"As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to the stress of modern day lives, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill the yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent," Pantone stated in an official release. "Weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, Serenity comforts with a calming effect, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure."

If that wasn't welcome enough, the combo of pink and blue, which, separately, have traditionally symbolized femininity and masculinity, is meant to reflect the movement toward "gender equality and fluidity," according to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

These aren't just pretty colors, but shades with a social mission that we can get behind. Way to crush it this year, Pantone!
