Taking the lead of Grammy Award nominations is the one and only Kendrick Lamar
, followed by Taylor Swift
and the Weeknd. Each of them are up for some the same awards, which is intense, considering T.S. and Kendrick are buds. But you know she'll be up congratulating him IF he's the winner.
I have many, many reasons why T.S. should be the winner of the majority if not all of the categories she is up for, but I guess that's because I'm a huge fan. We need to take into account the fact that her album actually came out last year, 2014. Taylor has been in the Top 10 on iTunes for the rest of 2014 and majority of 2015 until recently, when Adele gladly sits at No. 1. She can have the top spot because we've missed her.
Taylor broke many records during her 2015 year, unfortunately some broken again by Adele, but like I said, she's been missed and we knew that she would break records being it's been so long since we've seen her. Even though those records were broken again, we still need to take into account she did indeed break those records holding the title for almost all of 2015.
We should also talk about the fact that she changed the music industry completely with her argument of a free music streaming service, fighting for the underdogs who love to make music, and this free streaming would not provide them with compensation. Taylor took to Tumblr to explain why she believes that compensation should be given to the artist
who work hard to put their music out. While almost every single artist was in agreement, obviously there were going to be some haters. But haters gonna hate, hate, hate because she took the initiative when the underdogs couldn't or would be overlooked because they are not a big artist like her. You can take to Tumblr or Twitter to find the replies from artist who spoke about Taylor sticking up for those who right now do not have a huge name, thanking her because without her addressing Apple for the "Apple Music" service they would have not received recognition and/or compensation they truly deserve.
Kendrick, don't get me wrong. I've listened to his music; I have some of it on my phone, including but not limited to the "Bad Blood" remix. He's pretty much a lyrical genius. You can sit back and just let his music flow through you even though you will be holding back dancing, moving your hands as if you're the one hitting the notes. You know the hands; Drake does 'em all the time. Once you know all of the lyrics, you just go in for it and act as if you are him. There is no doubt in my mind that Kendrick has the same chance of winning the categories that him, T.S. and the Weeknd are in because of lyrics and the well put-together album he is nominated for.
Now the Weeknd holds a sweet spot in my heart. You know why - because Taylor brought him out during her world tour in East Rutherford, N.J. where they sang "I Can't Feel My Face." I was there; that's the sweet spot. The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) is also lyrically one of the best singers/writers that there could be in this generation of music. His music tends to lean toward a certain group of people because a lot of his music is very sexual and provocative. I believe he is also up against Taylor and Kendrick in a few categories. I'm so torn between all three of them, but clearly if I had to choose, you already know, it would be my girl, Taylor.
I just think of everything she has accomplished in 2014 and 2015; those accomplishments should be taken into account when picking winners for the Grammys even though they're two months away. If I could at-mention the people who choose who is going to win certain Grammys, I would tweet at them every single day just reminding them like, "Oh hey, remember when Taylor sold over a million copies of her album in less than a week? Okay, just making sure."
I've only talked about the three main artists who've received the most nominations. Like I said, Kendrick is leading the pack with 11 nominations, I believe, and Taylor along with the Weeknd follow along with seven nominations. There are plenty of other artists who completely should get recognition. (Ed Sheeran, I feel like he's become the Leonardo DiCaprio of the Grammys; he deserves multiple but has received zero). If I were to sit here and type out about every single nomination, you would definitely stop reading. Who knows? Maybe you already have stopped reading.
All I need to say is T.S. FTW. Let's hope she's holding seven of these on February 15, 2016.
