When we first found out there was a Little Mermaid reboot in the works, we seriously almost passed out, and then Disney added Chloe Grace Moretz to the mix and we knew the new version was going to be life.
But, it looks like the live-action version of The Little Mermaid won't look that much like the original flick we fell in love with back in the day. Chloe dished to Entertainment Tonight about just that, saying the new take on it will be "a modern, revisionist tale."
"[We're] making it progressive for young women in this day and age," the Carrie star told the outlet. Meaning, Ariel's signature hair color won't be there at all. Although Chloe wanted to dye her hair bright red to match Ariel's hair, she revealed the film is based on the Hans Christian Anderson novel. "So, I'll actually have blonde hair," she said. And then people started freaking out...
So apparently in Disney's new live action movie, The Little Mermaid, Ariel won't have red hair. Wtf Disney. Wtf.— Anna Stutsman (@yesyoucanna) December 9, 2015
Ariel is't having red hair in the Little Mermaid movie, and I feel personally victimized.— Nicole.Elizabeth (@msnicolecino) December 9, 2015
That backlash aside, Chloe couldn't help but gush about how excited she was when she first found out she landed the role. "When I got the call, I rolled the windows down in the car with my brother and we both screamed!" she said. "It was a very exciting moment!"
Was just informed that the new little mermaid will have blonde hair... Genuinely angry about this. ARIEL IS A RED HEAD.— Jackie (@jackiemac_) December 9, 2015
The Little Mermaid reboot doesn't have a release date yet, but, we still can't wait to see it when it does (red hair or not).
