"I stand here for all the women who been told you don't fit the mold," a visibly emotional Missy said. "Look at me, I'm here."
"I wanna thank all the women before me...because they kicked down the door for me to be able to walk through," she added.
YAS, Missy. That was the ultimate pro-girl #truthbomb.
"I want y'all to know to continue to be creative and don't be scared to take risks," she continued. "Being a woman in this industry, for me — as an artist, a writer, a producer — I've had my ups and downs and there's times when I wanted to give up, but," she said, "God had another plan for me and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be standing here."
Missy definitely deserves the acknowledgement for daring to defy the industry's carbon copy expectations, but we hope fans and supporters will give her just as much credit for encouraging girls and women to live up to their full #bosschick potential.
See Missy give thanks and slay the stage when Billboard's Women in Music show airs Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
