According to The Hollywood Reporter, Veep Executive Producer and Director Stephanie Laing co-founded the new network - launching on January 4 - along with former Beats by Dre executive Susan Paley. Recently, they brought on Elizabeth Thorp of Capitol File Magazine as editor-in-chief.
The #BUILTBYGIRLS network aims to bring funny online content to ladies based around a weekly theme, like why women say "sorry" so often (great question, BTW), in the form of sketch videos, editorial series and animation. The topic will be supported by a weekly newsletter called the PYPEline, which will present the theme on Monday, and follow up with user-generated content on Thursday.
PYPO has already brought on writers and producers from shows like Veep and Mom, as well as Marie Claire Magazine.
If it's as funny as Julia Louis-Dreyfus, then we're totally on board.
"The biggest focus for us is that we're not reporting the news," Laing told The Hollywood Reporter. "There are a lot of sites like that focused on women that are great, but we want to create the news. Our focus is on original content and digital shorts. We want to provide that platform for women comics to try out material. Our message to them was, 'Let us help you be your own producer. Let us help you execute something.'"
