Every year when the holidays roll around, we always seem to gravitate toward the same few colors: Green and red if we're being basic, pops of silver and gold so we can look like our favorite Christmas carol and a touch of blue if we really want to change things up. The same seems to always go for our beauty routine as well; bronzey golds will deck out our eyes while we make a beeline straight for the red lipstick to show our holiday spirit.
As adorable as having a Taylor Swift pout is, we're deciding to change things up this year and go for the less obvious choices with our beauty routines. Follow our lead and you'll be the only girl at the Christmas party not rocking the crimson lips, and trust us, that will be a good thing.
1. Some Like it Magenta
Nikki Phillippi recommended it to us, and we're especially digging on the shade Envy ($24, Ulta). More of a lip stain than a lipstick, this product goes on matte but still moisturizes your lips with Vitamins C and E. It'll also stay put, no matter how much eggnog you drink.
2. A Pop of Pink
Walgreens) is our personal fave. To complement those golds we seem to love so much, pop some pink on your pout and keep your lips bold in their own unique way. Since Revlon's formula also has aloe and shea butter, this shade is sure to keep your lips moisturized.
3. Getting Glitzy This Season
Not sure if you noticed, but the brown lip shades Rachel always used to wear on Friends is coming back in a big way, sans choker necklace, unfortunately. To keep up with this throwback, we're going for MAC Chintz ($17, MAC Cosmetics) a shimmery brown that adds a touch of glitter that you know want for your beauty look. And because it's MAC, you can trust that this lipstick will last all night while making your ugly sweater all the more glamorous.
4. We're Just Being Kylie
Kylie Jenner's Lip Kit, but since we're not looking to donate a kidney just to get it, we're settling for the next best thing. Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Patina ($24, Ulta) is not only a cult favorite, but the best dupe we've found for Kylie's Candy K. Though it goes on like a lip gloss, it dries matte for an intensely pigmented, long-lasting color. It's also infused with Vitamin E and avocado oil to keep lips soft. Santa, if you're listening, please take note.
It's safe to say with all these options, we're staying far away from red this year. As to whether or not we'll attempt green lipstick is still something we're mulling over.
