Ever since Pinterest introduced buyable pins, the social media platform went from a source of inspiration to a tool that can actually help us find the things we're looking for on the web. On Thursday, Pinterest announced in a blog post that it is flipping the script once again by adding price drop alerts.
This means that Pinterest will send you an in-app notification or email when a buyable pin that you've saved drops in price, directing you right to the Pinterest app to buy. YAAAS.
Pinterest noticed that many people were discovering items they like but waiting for them to drop in price before pulling the trigger, Product Marketing Manager Sarah Shere told TechCrunch. With the price alert system, Pinterest hopes to bring customers back to the site to complete their purchase.
According to software engineer Wonjun Jeong, there are more than 1 million pins with reduced prices each day. So much for saving money in 2016!
