The 45-second clip featured a phone call between West and Swift where the pop star appeared to thank him for letting her know of his plans to include at least part of the now-storied line: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous." Though it should be noted, West isn't heard telling Swift of his plans to include the second half of the line.
West: "For all my south side n****s that know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex."
Swift: It's like a compliment.
West: All I give a fuck about is you as a person and as a friend. I don't want to do rap that makes people feel bad.
Swift: Go with whatever line you think is better. It's obviously very tongue-in-cheek. I really appreciate you telling me about it, that's really nice ... I really appreciate it, the heads-up is so nice.
West has long defended himself, saying he had an "hour-long convo" with Swift ahead of the song's release where he told her about the lyric. Swift has denied giving any such approval, using a speech during the Grammys to call out those who "undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame."
Late Sunday, Swift promptly fired back at the video, saying she wasn't told the call was being recorded while noting that the "bitch" line wasn't played for her, or mentioned.
"It doesn't exist because it never happened," the singer wrote on social media. "You don't get to control someone's entire emotional response to being called 'that bitch' in front of the entire world."
If Swift wasn't told the call was being recorded, Kardiashian and West may have broken the law. In California, where the couple live, wiretapping laws require two-party consent jurisdiction, meaning both caller and receiver need to know a phone conversation is being recorded.
In an interview with GQ released last month, Kardashian told reporter Caity Weaver the video existed because Kanye "commissions videographers to film everything when he's recording an album." It's unclear in the footage posted Sunday if Swift was notified that she was being recorded before the filming started.
