If the ratings for this year's MTV Video Music Awards didn't already spell disaster then Miley Cyrus's date to the 2014 ceremony auctioning off her Moonman on eBay might be the nail in the VMAs coffin.
According to Page Six, Jesse Helt, who accepted Cyrus' award for Video of the Year to increase visibility of homeless youth, is selling the trophy for $15,000 on the auction site.
"I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now," Helt said during his time on stage in 2014. "I know this because I am one of these people."
The two first met when Cyrus visited My Friends Place, an organization that provides support for young people living on the streets and where Helt happened to be staying at the time. They developed a bond shortly after with Cyrus inviting him to the VMAs, as well as paying for his suit and hotel bill, The New York Times reported at the time.
The bare-bones listing features a few photos of the Moonman in question with the singer's and Helt's names etched into the base.
"In mint condition. Very rare one of a kind. No fingerprints," the listing, which has a starting bid of $10,000, reads.
After his appearance at the VMAs, Helt was sentenced to six months in jail for violating the terms of a 2010 probation regarding charges of criminal mischief and trespassing. According to TMZ, he now lives in a studio apartment in Los Angeles and has a new baby on the way, the reason the gossip site reports he's selling the Moonman in the first place.
