Aliens went head to head this weekend at the box office as both Battle: Los Angeles and Mars Needs Moms opened.

Battle: Los Angeles took the #1 stop, opening to a strong debut of $36 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. Johnny Depp's animated Western spoof Rango came in second, adding $23.1 million for a cumulative total of $68.7 million. The critically acclaimed Paramount Pictures film appeared on its way to surpassing $100 million.

Red Riding Hood debuted to $14.1 million while Mars Needs Moms opened with $6.8 million.
