Captain America has broken the spell of Harry Potter and powered his way to the top of the U.S. box office chart with an opening weekend haul of $65.8 million.
The new Hollywood blockbuster, starring Chris Evans as the patriotic superhero, replaces Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 at number one, with the eighth and final installment of the boy wizard franchise slipping into second place.
The magic of Potter is still going strong – the film made $48 million in its second week on release, boosting its total U.S. takings to $274.1 million.
Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake's romantic comedy Friends With Benefits is a new entry at three with $18.5 million, while Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Horrible Bosses round out the new countdown at four and five, respectively.
