It was a battle of the big action sci-fi flick vs the family friendly nostalgic movie at the box office this weekend. Who was the big winner?
Cowboys & Aliens and The Smurfs have tied for the box office top spot – both films opened at the weekend with $36.2 million. We're a little surprised! Cowboys has been hyped as such a big blockbuster, but it couldn't keep those cuddly blue Smurfs away. Update: It looks like after the final weekend numbers, Cowboys & Aliens barely squeaked by The Smurfs.
Captain America: The First Avenger didn't have enough power to hold onto last week's number one – it fell to third place with $24.9 million.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 raked in $21.9 million to land fourth place, and Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell's new romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love, rounded out the top five after premiering with $19.3 million.
Did you see any movies this weekend? We saw Crazy, Stupid, Love, and the cast and the acting is superb. The Smurfs is also quite a fun movie!
