Carey Mulligan was so desperate to land the title role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake, she completely transformed her look with a dramatic goth makeover.
The British actress was in the running to play tattooed computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson's best-selling novel. Director David Fincher eventually cast New York actress Rooney Mara, but Mulligan reveals she did everything she could for the coveted part.
She tells Britain's Radio Times, "I auditioned for it three times. I dyed my hair black, got fake nose rings and covered my face in black make-up. So yeah, I would have loved that part."
Mulligan has also been tipped to play Eliza Doolittle in a forthcoming My Fair Lady revamp – and she insists she's ready to fight for that role too.
She adds, "My Fair Lady might still happen and if it does I'll try to get the job."
