Disney is hoping to find the next generation of stars with their new shows. With "Hannah Montana" coming to an end and it being the potential last seasons for "Wizards of Waverly Place" and "The Suite Life on Deck," the channel is hoping to bring in fresh faces to be the next stars.
The channel has already begun airing "Shake It Up" and they've picked up "ANT Farm." The latest show to get a pilot is "Austin & Ally." The multi-camera comedy follows the unlikely partnership between two polar opposites - Austin, an extroverted musician/singer and Ally, a brilliant but shy songwriter - and their two best friends, Trish and Dex. Unbeknownst to Ally, Austin and Dex "appropriate" one of her songs, record it, create a video and posts it on the internet, after which it and Austin become a local sensation. When Trish convinces Ally to tell the world she wrote the song, Austin begs her to write another hit for him. Instead, the two combine their talents to create a true musical tour-de-force.
14-year-old Rossy Lunch has been cast as "Austin" and 15-year-old Laura Marano will take on the lead role of "Ally." Raini Rodriguez has been cast as "Trish". The role of Dex is yet to be cast.
