Last night, Jamie Foxx was one of the honorees at the Surreal4Real "Real Men Give Back" charity event benefiting The Little Princess Foundation and Haven Hills, Inc. The event was an exciting awards ceremony also honoring Mark Jackson, Ed Roche, Peter Byrne, Assemblyman Mike Davis, Russell Whittenburg, Shawn Marion and Boris Kodjoe.
We caught up with Jamie on the carpet, where he opened up on why domestic violence and abuse is an important issue for people to be aware of, for both men and women and his work with the charity.
"We bank upon the fact that things will be ok later on, and so we just think that if things go on just long enough, they'll work themselves out. That's actually not true," Jamie told us. "We've been very vigilant and vocal about when something happens to a woman, you have to nip it in the bud. You have to really say ';hey, there's a problem.'"
While many focus on the needs of the woman, Jamie also shared that it's important to dig deeper and talk to the man as well and make them aware of the problem. "We don't talk to the guys a lot. We simply go in sometimes and try to make sure the women are fine…Those guys we never talk to them and find out what the anger is about and what's going on. What can we do to alleviate that pressure because there's always that point in every situation where the guy has an opportunity to walk out of the house or walk away from the situation."
We also talked to Jamie, Boris Kodjoe and more about what it takes to be a "real man." Make sure to check that out in Cambio Connect.
