Jordin Sparks is ready to shine in her Broadway debut in In the Heights on Thursday evening. In the musical, Jordin plays "Nina," a young woman who is back from her first year at college. She explains, "Things didn't go as well as she had thought they were going to. She is the girl who always did everything perfect. And now she has to tell them what happened."
We all know Jordin is an amazing singer, but was she nervous about stepping into acting? "In the acting I've done so far, I just played myself," says Sparks, who has appeared on "The Suite Life on Deck" and "Big Time Rush." And what about all the dancing? "There's this club scene where I have to do this salsa move. I'm naturally clumsy, so I've been falling all over myself trying to get it right."
Jordin first saw In the Heights earlier this year and fell in love with the musical. "They gave me the (cast recording), and I didn't stop listening to it. So I reached out to them, saying, ';Look, even if nothing happens, thank you so much for the great music.' A week later, I had the offer."
Jordin will be making her debut at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Thursday, August 19. For more on Jordin in USA Today, check out the rest of the article here and here or on newsstands tomorrow. Also want to know what is currently on Jordin's iPod? Find out here.
