Justin Timberlake turned down several movie scripts focused on the teen market at the start of his film career so he didn't become typecast as an actor.

The Bad Teacher star has turned his back on music to focus on carving out a career on screen, and reveals he refused to take on any projects which were aimed at the fanbase he already had as a pop star.

Timberlake insists his patience paid off as it made sure he wasn't "pigeonholed".

He tells the New York Times, "I don't think in genres. Early on especially, I turned down a lot of scripts that were targeted to a demographic I already had. It's about being patient, and having something in the back of your mind about not getting pigeonholed."

Timberlake can be seen next in Friends with Benefits.
