With everyone obsessing over the World Cup finals, where Spain took the title, it's hard to imagine any professional soccer player who wouldn't be interested. Landon Donovan is the exception. He says he was "busy."

"It is hard to watch. You think you should be there," said Landon Donovan of the US team who played in the world cup, but unfortunately was eliminated by a 2-1 loss to Ghana.

Instead of watching the rest of the world cup, Donovan tried to distance himself from the event, "You're so immersed in it for long. You want to get away from it. Besides, you know you can beat all of these teams."

But team USA did beat the eventual winner of the World Cup, Spain, in 2009 to reach the Confederations Cup final, "We beat them last year and they end up winning, but that's why they are the champions. They won."

Donovan says he's amazed with America's support and how countless "people came up to me and said something along the lines of, ';Thank you for inspiring us. It was really cool.

What does he think about the new interest in soccer from America? "My thing is, if we made a few more fans along the way, that eventually helps your sport get better and better. That's all you can do."
