Simon Cowell has been forced to rule Mariah Carey out of his "The X Factor" judging panel – because the pregnant singer will be too busy with her twins when the TV talent show begins.
The music mogul has been desperate to recruit Carey for the upcoming American version of his hit U.K. TV talent show, which launched the career of British singer Leona Lewis. But Cowell will have to find another star for the job – because the "Hero" hitmaker will need plenty of time off after she gives birth to her babies this spring.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I can tell you officially that Mariah will not be on the panel, mainly because I think she's still gonna be pregnant at the time we start filming and she's gonna need some time off.
"She couldn't start working straight away, and they're long days."
However, Cowell insists there is a good chance Carey will appear on the show when the live singing rounds kick off in the autumn.
He adds, "She wants to be involved… we're hopeful there will be a role for her – and I'm not sure what yet – on the live shows."
Last week, it was confirmed producer L.A. Reid will take one of the three seats next to Cowell on the judging panel.
