Reese Witherspoon will follow in the footsteps of stars like Adam Sandler and Reese Witherspoon on Sunday evening when she receives this year's Generation Award at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.
"Reese Witherspoon is one of the most versatile and accomplished performers of her time," MTV President Stephen Friedman said in a statement. "Our viewers admire her for taking risks and for the breathtaking range of her roles. She fearlessly moves between dramas and comedies and always leaves everyone guessing what she'll do next. We are thrilled to honor Reese with this year's ';MTV Generation Award.' "
Reese previously took home a golden popcorn award for Best Comedic Performance in 2002 for Legally Blonde and was nominated for Best Female Performance, Best Dressed and Best Line for her star-making turn as Elle Woods. In 2003, she was nominated for Best Female Performance for Sweet Home Alabama and was up for Best Performance for Walk the Line back in 2006.
The 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, with "SNL" actor Jason Sudeikis set to host the show, taking place in Universal City, California, at the Gibson Amphitheatre.
