A producer on the new Jeff Buckley biopic has confirmed Robert Pattinson is still in contention to land the coveted leading role following rumors the part had already been given to "Gossip Girl" star Penn Badgley.
The Twilight star has long spoken of his desire to play the tragic musician in an upcoming movie about his life, but reports emerged this week suggesting the British actor had been left disappointed after Badgley won the job.
However, Orian Williams, co-producer of the currently untitled film, has now revealed Pattinson still has a chance of winning his dream role as they have yet to find their leading man.
Williams tells the Los Angeles Times, "Penn is not involved in the film at all. It's crazy how these stories get out… (The producers) are all very unified in our search to find the perfect person to play Jeff… When you have a story about an individual like Jeff you get a lot of interest because his life was so impactful and so short. We're being very careful about it as we move forward. It takes a while to perfect this type of film. You've got to do it for the right reasons."
He has confirmed movie bosses have staged preliminary meetings with Pattinson, but the casting process will not begin until October.
