After a month of play in South Africa, the 2010 FIFA World Cup came to a close last night.

Spain and the Netherlands faced off in the championship game. Spain dominated possession in the first half, which was filled with multiple yellow cards.

The second half also remained scoreless forcing the teams into overtime. In the 116th minute of play, Spain's Andres Iniesta scored a goal, preventing a penalty kick shootout and leading Spain to a 1-0 victory.

The championship is Spain's first, while it was the Netherlands' third defeat in World Cup final play.

Germany placed 3rd and Uruguay placed 4th in the tournament.

Around 700 million viewers around the world reportedly tuned in for the championship game. That beats the 600 million that watched the opening ceremony at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and ties, possibly beating, the number that watched the last World Cup final.

Were you happy with the winner of the game?
