"Glee" is known for putting its own spin on some of yesterday and today's biggest songs. It looks like their take on Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" might be their most successful single to date.
According to Billboard.com, the song is on its way to possibly the single-best sales week for a "Glee" single. It is on course to sell perhaps 150,000 to 175,000 downloads by week's end on Sunday, according to industry prognosticators. According to Columbia Records, the track did amazing on its first day, racking up 55,000 in sales via iTunes - marking the highest first-day sales for any "Glee" track, surpassing that of "Empire State of Mind."
"Don't Stop Believin'" has been the show's most successful single so far. It bowed with 177,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan upon its release in May of 2009. So if "Teenage Dream" can muster up a few more sales, it could be the cast's first top 10 single on the Hot 100 since "Don't Stop Believin'."
Newcomer Daren Criss, who sings lead on "Teenage Dream," is also having a great week. Rumor has it he will be promoted to a full time cast member. Did you know that Darren actually auditioned for "Glee" two and a half years ago for the role of Finn?
