The Beatles have finally entered the digital age – their music became available online on today after more than two years of negotiations.

Staff at EMI, the company that owns the Beatles' recordings, have long been in talks with surviving bandmembers Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to put the Fab Four's back catalog on the iTunes store.

McCartney told earlier this year of his frustration as the negotiations repeatedly stalled – but the waiting is now over for fans after Apple chiefs announced on Tuesday that the band's albums are available to download.

The iTunes website, run by Apple, now features a photo of the band on its homepage and is offering a large range of Beatles music for sale, including a box set of albums and a live concert film.
