"The Goonies" director Richard Donner has confirmed he's in talks to bring the popular 1985 film to Broadway in a new musical.

The beloved movie, starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin and Corey Feldman, tells the story of a group of children who go in search of a pirate's treasure and the story has now been re-written as a song-and-dance stage show.

Donner admits transforming the film into a musical has been a long, arduous process, but he's convinced the show will be a hit.

He tells Empire, "It's been taking forever, but that long process just got a lot shorter. There's a great writer/producer called Tim Long who does musicals on The Simpsons which are classic. He just delivered a treatment of The Goonies as a musical, and it's friggin' great!"

There are also rumors that a movie remake or sequel may be in the works. Should be interesting to see the movie as a musical.

Are you a fan of "The Goonies"? Do you think "The Goonies" will work as a musical?
