It looks like all the rumors and speculation are true. We reported last week that Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence was very close to winning the coveted role of Katniss in the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games.

Today, Lionsgate released an official statement naming Jennifer Lawrence as the lead they've been looking for.

Gary Ross is directing the Lionsgate project, which is being produced by Nina Jacobson and her Color Force banner. Author Suzanne Collins said of Lawrence's casting, "Jennifer's just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never though we'd find somebody this perfect for the role."

Added Ross, "Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades."

We wonder if Jennifer will change her hair for the role. Jennifer can be seen in the upcoming action flick X-Men: First Class.

Congrats Jennifer!

What do you think of this casting? Who should be cast as Peeta and the other characters?
