Zac Efron's new movie, Charlie St. Cloud, is set to release on July 30 and will give Efron a chance to show that he can do more than play the happy-go-lucky jock.

The movie is based on an acclaimed novel and follows a young man and accomplished sailor, Charlie St. Cloud (Zac Efron), who survives an accident that lets him see the world in a unique way. Charlie has the adoration of his mother Claire (Kim Basinger) and little brother Sam (newcomer Charlie Tahan), as well as a college scholarship that will lead him far from his sleepy Pacific Northwest hometown. But his bright future is cut short when a tragedy strikes and takes his dreams with it.

ET visited the set of the movie and chatted with Zac about why he turned down Footloose, comparisons to Brad Pitt and the movie itself.

On turning down Footloose: "There are so many factors that go into it; it was not an easy decision. After going that direction for a long time with ';High School Musical,' this seemed like the more interesting choice - and the more difficult choice, ultimately - and I'm having a blast doing this."

On being compared to a next-gen Brad Pitt: "Till I've achieved something at all, maybe in a couple of years, if I can keep this going, then I might deserve to be called that. Until then, I'm just Zac."

Are you excited to see Zac take on a more dramatic and mature role?
